Raise your hand if you know the difference between raw and virgin hair. Keeps your hand raised if you
know more than just the obvious, like raw hair is more on the expensive side and 100% unprocessed
hair collected from one donor. While virgin hair is chemically unprocessed human hair. If that about the
extent of your knowledge when it comes to raw and virgin hair, you my friend are not alone.

I’ve been wearing hair extensions for year now and to be honest I didn’t have much of a clue as to the
differences was between raw and virgin hair. Ok. Ok. Ok. Don’t get me wrong, I had a slight idea but
besides knowing that raw hair is typically straight from the donor and completely unprocessed and
virgin hair is not chemically altered. That was about it for me. In fact, they sound almost completely the
same to me. So, I thought it was about that time I got the real scoop on the differences of raw and virgin
hair. Who’s with me!?!

What is the Difference between Raw and Virgin Hair?

What is RAW HAIR?
 Raw hair is 100% unprocessed Hair. This means that the hair is literally cut from the donor’s
head, wash with shampoo/conditioner, and then sewn on to the weft.
 Hair is typically from one person or donor
 No chemical processing
 Raw Hair is said to be one of the highest quality of human hair extensions.
 The cuticle are aligned
 Raw hair normally does not have uniform curl or wave pattern. Meaning no processed or
steamed curls or wave patterns.
 More expensive price point

What is VIRGIN HAIR?
 The virgin hair is 100% human hair
 Has not been altered by dyes, perms, bleaches, or harsh washes.
 Steamed is used to create a more uniformed curl or wave pattern. Meaning the steaming
process is only used to design the curls to look exactly the same. Prime example would be my
personal favorite texture, Body wave, which has the perfect “S” shape from roots to ends.
 Virgin hair is not processed like beauty supply store package hair
 Virgin hair does not have acidic chemicals or contain synthetic hair fibers

Ok, well there you have ladies. These are some of the major differences between raw and virgin hair.
Now we are all a little more educated on some of the hair extensions we’ve been rocking. Ladies, I
would love to hear from you. What’s your personal favorite, Raw or Virgin Hair?
